Private Garden Monkstown

We carried out a full redesign and build of the gardens of a 4-storey Georgian home in Monkstown. The main garden was at the first floor level with a glass walkway from the house to the gardens. There was also a small basement courtyard. The clients have a young family and wanted a garden for play and for general recreation.

We enlarged the lower basement courtyard and created terraced gardens up to the main garden level. This allowed light into the basement rooms and also create a spacious feel to the courtyard itself. It also allowed views of the terraced planting from the basement windows.

The middle level of the garden comprises of a spacious Egyptian Limestone paved area surrounded by planting in raised beds. Drop offs to the lower levels are protected by glass balustrades.

The top garden level is a large play area again framed by planting in raised beds.

The hard landscaping palette of limestone and clay brick compliment the original boundary granite walls. The original steps to the basement were salvaged and reintroduced with clay brick to link the new elements of the garden with the old elements of the house.
